• These cards are NOT ID cards. They are cards produced in accordance with the government guidelines for people who claim an exemption to the face mask regulations (see below).   These cards are produced in the UK in accordance with the UK Government’s guidance

Guidance from the UK Government website reads:

• “Some people may feel more comfortable showing something that says they do not have to wear a face covering.  This could be in the form of an exemption card, badge or even a home-made sign.   This is a personal choice and is not necessary in law.  Those who have an age, health or disability reason for not wearing a face covering should not be routinely asked to give any written evidence of this.  Written evidence includes exemption cards.”

About Breathing Problems – Shortness of Breath

• Shortness of breath (SOB), also known as dyspnea is a feeling of not being able to breathe well enough. The American Thoracic Society defines it as “a subjective experience of breathing discomfort that consists of qualitatively distinct sensations that vary in intensity”, and recommends evaluating dyspnea by assessing the intensity of the distinct sensations, the degree of distress involved, and its burden or impact on activities of daily living. Distinct sensations include effort/work, chest tightness, and air hunger (the feeling of not enough oxygen).
• Dyspnea is a normal symptom of heavy exertion but becomes pathological if it occurs in unexpected situations or light exertion. In 85% of cases it is due to asthma, pneumonia, cardiac ischemia, interstitial lung disease, congestive heart failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, or psychogenic causes, such as panic disorder and anxiety.  Treatment typically depends on the underlying cause.
